Stuart Redden (1876-1962), American Protestant missionary and diplomat. In 1876, Stuart Redden was born in Tianshui Church, where he spent his childhood and boyhood. In 1919, Stuart Leiden became president of Yanjing University, in 1946 he was U. S. Ambassador to China, returned to the U. S. in 1949, and died in 1962. Residence of Stuart Leiden established in 1878, the former residence covers an area of 4138.5 square meters and is the oldest missionary residence in Hangzhou. The house is brick and wood structure, is a two-story building that combines Chinese and Western style, there are three side by side. Only one two-storey house and a few later-built ancillary houses remain, the main building covers an area of 239.4 square meters.
