Phoenix Temple, located at 227, Zhongshan Road, Shangcheng District, is one of the early Islamic monasteries in China. Phoenix Temple was founded in Tang Dynasty, destroyed in Song Dynasty, rebuilt in Yuan Dynasty, rebuilt between Ming Dynasty and Thailand, and rebuilt in succession since Qingshunzhi and Kangxi. Phoenix Temple's original size than now more than twice the size of the entire complex layout shaped like phoenix, hence the name.In 1928, Hangzhou built a central road (now Zhongshan Road), demolishing the temple's Zhaobi, the gate, the temple's moon tower, the corridor and a pair of stone horses in front. Phoenix Temple in 2009 according to the original appearance of the reconstruction of the temple gate, the moon tower, basically restored the original scale.
Phoenix Temple also has more than 20 stone and tombstones since the Yuan Dynasty, mainly written in Chinese and Arabic, one of which is Persian. These inscriptions record the history and maintenance of Phoenix Temple and the funeral of Hui nationality. They are of great reference value to understand the whole history of Phoenix Temple and ancient customs of Hui nationality in ancient Hangzhou.In 2001, it was included in the fifth batch of key national cultural relics protection units.
