The site covers an area of nearly 150,000 square meters and has unearthed the world's oldest canoe and a large number of bone, wood, stone tools, pottery and plant specimens. According to archaeological excavation and carbon 14 determination, the absolute age of the site is 8000-7000 years ago. The site is one of the earliest Neolithic sites discovered in Zhejiang Province. It was named one of the top ten archaeological discoveries in China in 2001. It was announced by the State Council as the sixth batch of key cultural relics protection units in 2006. The prehistoric archaeological culture, the Cross Lake Bridge culture, was named for the discovery of the site.
