The ten sceneries of the West Lake are mainly distributed in or around the West Lake area of Hangzhou City. The "four-character landscape" series, which was founded in the 13th century, maintained and revived in the 14th-16th century, and flourished in the 17th-19th century, is the most outstanding landscape classic element of universal value. Ten scenic spots are named: Su Di Chunxiao, Qu Yuan Fenghe, Pinghu Autumn Moon, Broken Bridge, Fish Watching, Liu Lang Wenying, Santan Printing Moon, Twin Peaks Inserting Cloud, Leifeng Evening Bell, Nanping Night Bell.
Since the rise of the landscape design techniques of the "four character landscape" series of title landscapes represented by the ten sceneries of the West Lake, not only been widely used in Chinese landscape design, and also it had a wide influence on ancient Chinese literature, art, gardens, etc. and spread to East Asian countries with cultural exchange. In 2013, it was included in the seventh batch of key national cultural relics protection units.
