The site of Sizhou Paper Workshop is located in the northern foot of Phoenix Mountain, Sizhou Village, Yinhu Street, north of Fuyang District, Hangzhou City, and is located in the remnant of Tianmu Mountain. Belonging to the low-lying hilly areas, the south, north, west three sides surrounded by mountains, the north faces water, is in the valley between mountains, the environment is better. Site is located in the Phoenix Mountain to Baiyang River between the first stage platform, the terrain is high in the south and low in the north, the ground is relatively open. The site includes a paper mill area and a living area. The workshop area is located in the western half of the site and the living area is located in the eastern half of the site. The excavation area is located in the workshop area with a total area of about 2400 square meters.
The site of Sizhou papermaking workshop is the earliest paper-making site discovered in China and the only preserved paper-making site. It is a direct example and precious example of the invention of papermaking technology and papermaking technology in China, which has high historical value. It reflects the scientific and technological level and intelligence of the ancient Chinese working in a certain period, and is the crystallization of the wisdom of the Chinese nation. In 2013, it was included in the seventh batch of key national cultural relics protection units.
