In 2003, the cultural relics department of Lin'an City carried out archaeological excavation of the building site. Site is a large Buddhist architectural site, covering an area of 10,000 square meters. The site has a central axisymmetric corridor-style layout, and the whole set of buildings consists of three buildings. From south to north, the front hall-court, the bell tower-court, the east annex-court, the corridor-back hall and the left and right wing houses are sequentially.
Three groups of buildings are distributed on three terraces in succession. The foundation site, brick (stone) drainage ditch, patio paving, brick tile, snout and ceramic ware all accord with the architectural style from the late Tang Dynasty to the five dynasties. Compared with the historical documents, it can be identified that this site is the site of the temple of the King of Wuyue, Qian Yue. The site of Gongshen Temple is well preserved and has a distinctive general pattern, which reflects the layout characteristics of Buddhist temples in the Five Dynasties.
It provides valuable material for studying the evolution of Buddhist temples in the period of Qian Yu and Wu Yue.In 2013, it was included in the seventh batch of key national cultural relics protection units.
