In the twenty-ninth year of Shaoxing of the Southern Song Dynasty (1159), Liu Ao, an internal attendant, entered the Dao to cultivate the truth, and settled here. Emperor Gaozong of Song wrote the word "Tongxuan" as his name, which was later abolished. Ming Xu Michiaki rebuilt, Qingxian Fengma abandoned again. The existing Tongxuan Guan statue sits north facing south, and is composed of 6 statues, 1 square cliff inscription and 1 relief. The statue is centered on the "Sanmao Zhenjun", with the statue of Yuan Shi Tianzun on the upper side, and the statues of Liu Ao and Xu Daozhang on both sides. The spring should have been chiseled by Liu Ao, who founded the Tongxuan Temple in the Southern Song Dynasty, and has the inscription "Deer Spring", which is now dry. The Tongxuan Temple statue is the only existing Taoist statue in Hangzhou.
