Jiang Zhuang was built by Lian Huiqing, a native of Wuxi, and was originally called "Xiaowanliu Hall", formerly known as Lian Zhuang. During the reign of the Qing Dynasty, it was resold to Jiang Suan, a native of Nanjing, and after Jiang acquired this building, he rebuilt the house and renamed it Lan Yan Villa, commonly known as Jiang Zhuang. The main building of Jiangzhuang was built in 1901 and the east building was completed in 1923. In 1950, scholar Ma Yifu moved here. Jiangzhuang consists of the main building, the west building and the east building. The main building is now opened to the public as the Ma Yifu Memorial Hall. Jiangzhuang is a modern manor house built according to the traditional Chinese garden method using modern building materials, which is a typical example of studying private gardens in this period.
