Hu Xueyan's Former Residence is located at 18 Yuanbao Street, belonging to Yuanjing Lane community on Ziyang Street. The old house was built in 1872, covering an area of 10.8 mu and a construction area of 5815 square meters. In the second half of 1999, the people's government of Hangzhou began to demolish Hu Xueyan's Former Residence, and began restoration work, completed by the end of 2000. At the beginning of 2001, the old house was open to the public.
Hu Xueyan's former residence is divided into three areas: the central axis by sedan chair hall, photo hall, hundred dollar lion floor and east, west four halls of the composition of the back garden. Hu's residence is made of high-grade wood such as rosewood, acidwood, nanmu, ginkgo, southern fir, Chinese beech, and pear wood, in addition to the exquisite brick, wood, stone, sculpture, painting techniques, The Hu mansion is not only an excellent building in late Qing Dynasty, but also the first mansion of a great merchant in China in the late Qing Dynasty. In 2006, it was listed as the sixth batch of key national cultural relics protection units.
